The poinsettia is a commercially important flowering plant species of the diverse spurge family Euphorbiaceae . Indigenous to Mexico and Central America, the poinsettia was first described by Europeans in 1834.

It is particularly well known for its red and green foliage and is widely used in Christmas floral displays.

Care

  • Outdoor light: Part sun, 4 to 6 hours daily.
  • Temperature: Indoor temperatures of 65-70 degrees F is ideal.
  • Avoid placing poinsettias where temperature fluctuates or may be drying, such as near cold drafts, heat ducts, fireplaces, fans, space heaters, etc.
